Caring for People

Caring for All

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  John 13:34

Being here for everyone and anyone in our community is at the heart of our mission at Dorridge Methodist Church (DMC). Connecting with other people and feeling part of the community is important for our health and well-being. Yet for a variety of reasons, companionship can sometimes be lacking in our lives.

At DMC, we don’t want anyone in our community to feel isolated. Whether or not this is your experience, we invite you to come along to any of the events and activities at our Church centre on Mill Lane. We can usually offer help with getting here should you need it. The idea of trying something new for the first time can feel a little daunting. We understand this, and promise you a warm welcome and friendly faces who will put you at ease.

Did you know the word ‘company’ derives from the Latin ‘com’ meaning ‘with’ and ‘panis’ meaning ‘bread’? Some of our activities are centred around good food in good company! Twice a month we host an afternoon Tea Party, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays between 2 and 4pm and also have a monthly 3rd Friday Lunch Club – 3FLC).

‘I was a bit apprehensive the first time I went to a Tuesday Tea Party, but I needn’t have worried. Everyone was so friendly and kind. The sandwiches and home-made cakes are delicious. There’s always plenty to eat and we just put in our loose change which goes to the church funds’ – Margaret

‘When Stephen broke his leg and I was under treatment for cancer we found our lives greatly restricted as we were house bound… When our progress enabled us to face the outside world again we ventured out to DMC for tea one wet Tuesday afternoon and then to lunch one Friday morning… the fellowship was a real turning point for us. Be in no doubt that this was a very heart-warming experience…our thanks to you all for sustaining us over the months when we most needed it and for the evident love received when we were welcomed back into the church family.’ – Carol

You’ll always be welcome at Sunday morning worship and we invite you to stay afterwards for a cup of coffee and a chat. We also meet in smaller numbers for Bible study, prayer and conversation over a cup of tea. These are normally held at someone’s home, so we call these small group meetings ‘Home Groups’.

If singing is your thing, our Choir welcomes new members. Or if you prefer something more active, why not try our Indoor bowls, Badminton, or Rambling Club. All levels welcome!

Perhaps you simply need a little help with day-to-day living, such as food shopping. If so, we will always try to lend a friendly hand. Maybe you would like someone to pop in and keep you company for a while – we can offer this too.

Of course, DMC is here for you for major life events. We offer funerals, thanksgiving services, weddings and baptisms, always planned with thought, care and compassion together with you. We also hold an annual memorial service to remember loved ones who have died.
